Each year at Halloween, the neighbors of the Encanto Palmcroft Historic Neighborhood give out free books to over 2,000 trick or treaters instead of giving them candy. The kids love it and in some cases have never before had their own book. Books are purchased and donated by various neighbors and other groups, but the bulk of them come from the Friends of the Phoenix Public Library. Our partnership with them has been marvelous and many want to expand the program to other neighborhoods. In 2014, we gave out 6,000 books! Wow! Some of our Interact students join us as well to help the kids find the types of books they like. It’s a wonderful, festive event. Stop by and see for yourself! And take a look at this fun video!
